Saints – Saviours in the Hour of Need

accessibility.time_to

Saint Barbara is the patron saint of tunnellers and miners, Saint Fridolin offers support when a herd is threatened by cattle plague, while Saint Anthony lends a helping hand when it comes to retrieving things lost or stolen. According to the medieval world of imagination, saints come to the aid of those in need, whatever the circumstances. They provide protection from pestilence, war, and famine, and their heroic deeds shine a light of hope and consolation. Even a fleeting glimpse of Saint Christopher has the potential to save from sudden death. As from 3 November 2018, the new exhibition at the Forum of Swiss History presents an array of treasured saint statues whose beauty and aura still have the power to captivate us today. The famous Palm Sunday donkey from Steinen, which dates back to the 11th century, is also set to make its appearance.
